It is over twenty years since I tasted home grown food from the kitchen garden for the first time. Sun-ripened tomatoes eaten straight from the vine , juicy strawberries still warm from the midday sun, sweet corn picked and eaten within the hour before the sugar turns to starch. It was truly a defining moment in my life .
Contrast the above with pre-packaged , often imported fruit and veg that is probably a week old before it reaches the dinner plate. Anyone who samples home grown food invariably becomes hooked.

The name of the game is to put fresh , nutritional organic food on to your table . I promise you really won't look back.
Whether you want to grow herbs in a window box or run a five acre smallholding ,my expertise built up through college training and two decades of hands on experience will help you achieve what you require .
I have written over 100 published gardening articles , copies of which are available . Find out more about my writing career and gardening life in the about me section.
You may be able to spare one hour per week or five hours per day , it is not important . I will show you techniques that will help you put fresh nutritious food on your table, for minimal effort . Modern varieties today mean balcony and courtyard gardens can supply a tremendous amount of food from a small space. For anyone without a garden an allotment provides a wonderful alternative. A medium size allotment will feed a family of five for much of the year.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
Flowers and vegetables can mix with great success . Gone are the Victorian days of rose beds and mass regimented planting . Planting edible plants with ornamental ones brings great benefits in areas such as pest control. Pests such as the cabbage white butterfly often cannot detect the aroma of the host plant , consequently they fly into your neighbours plot instead !
The late former Gardeners World TV presenter Geoff Hamilton was a great advocate of this approach. I too believe this method is under -estimated and have practiced it with great success for five years on one of my allotment plots. I offer full advice for as long as you require it on this exciting way of growing kitchen garden produce.

Four Feet Wide Beds
The classic way to grow organic food is by using the no-dig raised bed method . This can be adapted to suit most gardens and really does work .I have used this method for over a decade , at the same time as the more conventional way of growing food . The results make interesting reading.
