WE ARE
THE KITCHEN GARDEN CORNWALL
Nurturing a garden offers more than the rewards of what we grow. It invites us to slow down, observe the natural world and rediscover the quiet satisfaction of caring for living things.
At The Kitchen Garden, this connection between nature, wellbeing and creativity is woven into the way we grow, learn and work with the seasons.
THE STORY BEHIND THE KITCHEN GARDEN
The Kitchen Garden is inspired by the traditional walled kitchen gardens of Victorian estates, where the Head Gardener oversaw a living, productive world of vegetables, herbs, flowers and cultivated plants.
These gardens were places of skill, patience and seasonal rhythm. They provided food for the household, flowers for the home and herbs for culinary, medicinal and household uses. They were also places of horticultural knowledge, where plants were cultivated, observed and understood, and where practical skills were passed down through generations.
Inspired by this tradition, The Kitchen Garden is a modern interpretation of that world, bringing together heritage vegetables, traditional herbs, seasonal cut flowers and botanical art, guided by regenerative growing principles and a deep respect for the natural world.
Based in Cornwall, the project is taking shape in the grounds of an old Victorian Coach House, close to the remains of a historic manor. The surviving traces of the old garden and its pathways offer a tangible connection to the gardeners who worked this landscape before.
This is a garden in the making: a place to grow, observe, experiment, create and learn. Over time, it will develop into a productive and creative kitchen garden, with the potential to share its harvests, hand-gathered bouquets, botanical paintings and pressed-flower work.
The aim is not simply to recreate the past, but to carry its spirit forward, combining traditional horticultural practice with modern ecological understanding.
